Temporary Move

As of November 1, we have temporarily moved out of our facility for building maintenance and repairs. We are currently not accepting intakes and referring all songbird calls to Howell Nature Center and the Michigan DNR licensed rehabilitator list. We are still checking voicemails a few times a day for any other concerns or questions. It is undetermined when we will return to our regular facility, but as soon as we know, we will update and return to winter hours for intakes.

Until then, enjoy this beautiful picture of Kenneth, a pileated woodpecker currently in our care!

Reduced Hours

As the days get shorter, we will be reducing our hours to coincide with daylight hours. Beginning today, October 1st, we will be open from 8am – 8pm. Phone calls and intakes will be accepted from 8:30am – 7pm.

If you have found a bird in need of assistance, please call the Center for further instructions. Please do not bring a bird to the Center without speaking directly to a staff member first.

If you have found an injured or thought to be abandoned bird, please keep it in a stress-free environment and in a contained enclosure without any food or water until you’ve spoken to a wildlife rehabilitator.

If you need immediate assistance near the Washtenaw County area, you can contact the Humane Society of Huron Valley or the Howell Nature Center. You can also contact any rehabber on the Michigan DNR website.

Art Show to Benefit the Bird Center

We have some exciting news to share! It’s been a hard summer not being able to do any public fundraising. We enjoy meeting people, we have missed discussing our mission or finding new volunteers, and donations are lower due to the lack of public events.

Local artist Lindsey Dahl has put together a socially distanced art event, and we would love for you to come! A Rare Find, an outdoor event featuring 30 local artists, kids activities and more, will take place on October 10th from 11am – 8pm. The event is across the street from the Sandhill Crane Winery in Jackson.

For more information, please visit the Facebook event page, and we hope you can come! The Bird Center will have a table at the event all day with items to purchase and information to be shared, along with 50% of the proceeds being donated to us from the event’s sales!
