For this Giving Tuesday, we’ve created an all-new video tour of the Bird Center to give you a behind-the-scenes look at our reception area, medical room, and everybody’s favorite – the baby room! It may be empty this time of year, but when spring arrives, it’ll be overflowing with hungry babies once again. 🐣

Following an indoor tour of the Center, our wonderful clinic manager Marissa will walk you through our new waterfowl area and outdoor flight enclosures, so you can see just how far we’ve come since we made the move to Saline in 2021!

We’re incredibly proud of our outdoor enclosures, but a few of them are in need of critical updates so we can continue providing optimal care to the over 1500 birds we help out each year…

Flight cages are an essential part of the rehabilitation process for almost all patients admitted to the Bird Center. All baby birds raised at the Center spend two weeks in a pre-release flight cage, where they perfect their flight, acclimate to Michigan’s unpredictable weather, and learn the sights and sounds of the outdoors. Our adult patients who have suffered from severe injuries or have been at the Center for an extended period of time also utilize our flight cages where they spend time getting used to flying again.

This Giving Tuesday, we’re asking for donations to make improvements to our existing flight cage structures. This includes adding more natural light, replacing damaged flight cage lining, creating a double-door hallway system, adding soft-release doors, and installing more outdoor cameras so we can monitor patients in the flight cages (and hopefully livestream them, too!)

If you’re planning to make a donation this giving season, visit our Donate page for information on employee matching benefits, planned giving, and more.

From all of us at the BCM, we thank you for your generous support and wish you the happiest of holidays! 🎄
